It seems like we have been able to advance in many different areas where technology allow us to get more for less money, from generation to generations, but not in healthcare. The cost of healthcare seems to consistently increase year-over-year, and the amount of care we receive for the dollars spent is less and less, with more and more coming out-of-pocket. We still have about 10% of the populations that has no access to care due to the cost of coverage. Provider organizations still carry large sums of bad debt (unpaid patient charges) because, as a system we have not advanced in how we pay for healthcare. We are way past the time to retire the existing outdated methods and convert to a preferred option.
Technology has allowed the United States to make advances in many areas, but when it comes to the value proposition in healthcare, we still don’t get what we pay for.
